1. What is the initial cost of setting up a company in Malta in order to apply for an online gaming licence?

The cost of setting up an online gaming company in Malta will amount to around 1800 Euros, which includes the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) registration fee, the obtaining of stamp Duty Exemption, the combined register and share certificates and the obtaining of VAT registration. This amount is based on a minimum share capital, the MFSA fee will be higher if the clients decide to opt for a higher share capital. This does not include legal fees.

2. What is the cost of the application, and what is the cost of the annual licence fee?

The application for the online gaming license in Malta will cost an initial 1000 Maltese liri, which amounts to around 2400 Euros. This application fee is not refundable should the application fail to be accepted. If the application is eventually accepted, the annual licence fee amounts to 3000 Maltese liri, which amounts to around 7200 Euros. These costs refer to the application fees payable to the Lotteries and Gaming Authority and do not include legal fees.

3. How long does the whole procedure usually take?

If we have all the necessary documentaion and information from the client, we can file the application within two weeks. The application will take around a month and a half to be processed, and then the applicant will be given a six-month period within which to establish the business in Malta, conclude all necessary agreements and carry out the necessary testing of the set-up. after this six-month pariod, the authorities will issue a formal licence after the compliance certificate is obtained, which normally takes two weeks.
